The Da Vinci Code
I have read another book after a very long time. I believe it’s almost been 6 months since I’ve read a book earnestly. Da Vinci code is definitely worth a read. If you want to really get into the deeper meaning and Christianity it is worth a second or a third read. By continuing reading you re bound to know the story. so I warn you do not read ahead if u plan to read the book at some point of time
The book itself is very predictable. Accepted, the story dealing, the cryptography and the ideas presented and interpreted are very fascinating. But it is not a Frederick Forsyth. It does not explain the echelons of power. it presumes a lot of things and the reader is left guessing all the unknown or unexplained plots. It’s more like a Sidney Sheldon plus the Leonardo Da Vinci codes plus the secrets of the Christ.
Would make an excellent movie.
The plot features a guy and a girl who are forced into meeting each other through a murder. The murdered is the grandfather of the girl and happens to be the curator of the “La Louvre” (one of the most prestigious museums in the world). We find thru the course of the book that the murdered is of great importance. He is part of the secret society of the priory.
The holy grail is considered as the Chalice(cup) from which Jesus Christ last drank from. It is a very holy monument. The members of the society are to keep a secret that Jesus Christ had a wife and then late child. The wife is said to be Mary Magdalene( the alleged prostitute). This is kept secret by the society and the church does want this secret out as it could ruin the faith of the Christian public.
When the grandmaster of the society gets murdered, a sequence of events gets into motion. The main villain sets up the guy and the gal to find the secrets for him. All this is hackneyed through history and in so many movies. So all this is very boring.
The interesting part is the codes that Leonardo da vinci designed through history. It is fun to see the members of the society include Isaac Newton, Leo Da Vinci, Robert Boyle and the curator himself. The paintings of leo da vinci and their peculiarities are very significant. We find out about the vitruvian man, the mona lisa, the last supper and his other works. Their hidden meanings etc.

flashy
i have started learning flash from macromedia. i downloaded the trial version yesterday and i decided its high time i gte flying into this part of web design. as much as i hate getting into heavy-loading graphics and design , what i saw can be done with flash has changed my mind into accepting it .
also another major reason for this change is that adobe has bougt macromedia. adboce ia company i respect. if they bought macro.. there must be a reson to do so. if adobe did it i have no qualms doing it.
expect some simple flash animations in the future

i used picasa 2 today. it is wonderful. the interface is so user freindly with all the keyboard one wud expect in place. it was a pleasure looking at stuff. there is no doubt it is going to be my picture editor from now on. i can stuff liek the ms photodraw thing. though it is not that advanced. i guess we cud write more plug ins . i hope its on the google open source.

new haircut
i got a new haircut this week. it was quite an event as 2 ppl escorted me to the saloon. and the lady made me get my hair cut first as she wanted me out of the way. i had really really long hair. anyways now i have really really short hair.here's a pic. its almost as if my hair cut is the talk of the town.

Ayrton Senna: beautiful article
He streaked through the sport like a comet, an other-worldly superstar whose brilliance as a driver was matched by a dazzling intellect and coruscating charisma that illuminated Formula One racing as never before. No one tried harder or pushed himself further, nor did anyone shed so much light on the extremes to which only the greatest drivers go. Intensely introspective and passionate in the extreme, Ayrton Senna endlessly sought to extend his limits, to go faster than himself, a quest that ultimately made him a martyr but did not diminish his mystique.
Ayrton Senna da Silva was born on March 21, 1960, into a wealthy Brazilian family where, with his brother and sister, he enjoyed a privileged upbringing. He never needed to race for money but his deep need for racing began with an infatuation for a miniature go-kart his father gave him when he was four years old. As a boy the highlights of Ayrton's life were Grand Prix mornings when he awoke trembling with anticipation at the prospect of watching his Formula One heroes in action on television. At 13 he raced a kart for the first time and immediately won. Eight years later he went single-seater racing in Britain, where in three years he won five championships, by which time he had divorced his young wife and forsaken a future in his father's businesses in favour of pursuing success in Formula One racing, where he made his debut with Toleman in 1984. At Monaco (a race he would win six times), his sensational second to Alain Prost's McLaren - in torrential rain - was confirmation of the phenomenal talent that would take the sport by storm.
Deciding Toleman's limited resources were inadequate for his towering ambition, Senna bought out his contract and in 1985 moved to Lotus, where in three seasons he started from pole 16 times (he eventually won a record 65) and won six races. Having reached the limits of Lotus he decided the fastest way forward would be with McLaren, where he went in 1988 and stayed for six seasons, winning 35 races and three world championships.
In 1988, when McLaren-Honda won 15 of the 16 races, Senna beat his team mate Alain Prost eight wins to seven to take his first driving title. Thereafter two of the greatest drivers became protagonists in one of the most infamous feuds. In 1989 Prost took the title by taking Senna out at the Suzuka chicane. In 1990 Senna extracted revenge at Suzuka's first corner, winning his second championship by taking out Prost's Ferrari at Suzuka's first corner. Senna's third title, in 1991, was straightforward as his domination as a driver became even more pronounced, as did his obsession with becoming better still. Some of his greatest performances came in his final year with McLaren, following which he moved to Williams for the ill-fated 1994 season.
Beyond his driving genius Senna was one of the sport's most compelling personalities. Though slight in stature he possessed a powerful physical presence, and when he spoke, with his warm brown eyes sparkling and his voice quavering with intensity, his eloquence was spellbinding. Even the most jaded members of the Formula One fraternity were mesmerised by his passionate soliloquies and in his press conferences you could hear a pin drop as he spoke with such hypnotic effect. His command performances were captured by the media and the world at large became aware of Senna's magnetic appeal.
Everyone marvelled at how he put so much of himself, his very soul, into everything he did, not just his driving but into life itself. Behind the wheel the depth of his commitment was there for all to see and the thrilling spectacle of Senna on an all-out qualifying lap or a relentless charge through the field evoked an uneasy combination of both admiration for his superlative skill and fear for his future.
He drove like a man possessed - some thought by demons. His ruthless ambition provoked condemnation from critics, among them Prost who accused him of caring more about winning than living. When Senna revealed he had discovered religion Prost and others suggested he was a dangerous madman who thought God was his co-pilot. "Senna is a genius," Martin Brundle said. "I define genius as just the right side of imbalance. He is so highly developed to the point that he's almost over the edge. It's a close call."
Even Senna confessed he occasionally went too far, as was the case in qualifying for the 1988 Monaco Grand Prix, where he became a passenger on a surreal ride into the unknown. Already on pole, he went faster and faster and was eventually over two seconds quicker than Prost in an identical McLaren. "Suddenly, it frightened me," Ayrton said, "because I realised I was well beyond my conscious understanding. I drove back slowly to the pits and did not go out anymore that day."
He said he was acutely aware of his own mortality and used fear to control the extent of the boundaries he felt compelled to explore. Indeed, he regarded racing as a metaphor for life and he used driving as a means of self-discovery. "For me, this research is fascinating. Every time I push, I find something more, again and again. But there is a contradiction. The same moment that you become the fastest, you are enormously fragile. Because in a split-second, it can be gone. All of it. These two extremes contribute to knowing yourself, deeper and deeper."
His self-absorption did not preclude deep feelings for humanity and he despaired over the world's ills. He loved children and gave millions of his personal fortune (estimated at $400 million when he died) to help provide a better future for the underprivileged in Brazil. Early in 1994 he spoke about his own future. "I want to live fully, very intensely. I would never want to live partially, suffering from illness or injury. If I ever happen to have an accident that eventually costs my life, I hope it happens in one instant."
And so it did, on May 1, 1994, in the San Marino Grand Prix, where his race-leading Williams inexplicably speared off the Imola track and hit the concrete wall at Tamburello corner. Millions saw it happen on television, the world mourned his passing and his state funeral in Sao Paulo was attended by many members of the shocked Formula One community. Among the several drivers escorting the coffin was Alain Prost. Among the sad mourners was Frank Williams, who said: "Ayrton was no ordinary person. He was actually a greater man out of the car than in it."

arrival
my laptop has finally made it. it has taken me more than a week to get it. i am still a little confused abt the buttons but it seems ergonomic enuf. the sound is very good and the display is excellent. i can read the text very well and seem to have no problem. the only thing i found is the dpi was set to 120 so the pics seemed very good and the text lousy. but once i set it to 90 dpi everything is fine.
dell has its crap on it. i have to take time off to get rid of it.52gb is the available now.it actually suppposed to be somewhere around 60 gb.

shipping
the laptop is in shipping. as of now it has reached the beautiful state of new york.(every state seems beautiful now -- even ohio). i am thinking of getting it redirected to me on monday, as then, roni mama doesnt have to ship it to me again. lets see how that works out. ups is very efficient. they have updates in status every time the package changes transit location. so i followed the package from nashville ,tn (probably thats where dell has its plant) to nj to ny now and soon into nesconset.

i know a lot of ppl who keep updating their lappy status, so i will keep doing it. dell has now finished assembly,testing and packing, so they are ready for shipping. ups has been informed for the same and they are going to get ready to ship it. probably tomorrow they will update that they have picked up the delivery. then on its way to nesconset and then oh yeah, my place.

1. Order Processing
Your order is first processed for release to the manufacturing floor. Release is generally dependent upon approval of your designated form of payment. Once payment is confirmed, your order will be released for production.
2. Pre-Production
Pre-Production time varies based on the system ordered and is depended largely on the availability of parts. An estimated "lead time" reflecting the anticipated time it will take to get parts on hand and build your order should have been communicated to you at the time of order confirmation. Order confirmation may have been provided over the phone by your sales representative, or via email for electronic orders.
3. In Production
Changes to your order at this time will require your existing order to be cancelled and a new order to be placed resulting in possible delays to your estimated ship date. Please contact your sales representative for more information.
Kitting - When a system order is released to manufacturing, the material availability is confirmed and all parts needed to complete the system are placed into a tote. The completed tote is mated with the systems chassis, placed on a conveyor which takes it through to build.
Build - An assembly team takes the tote and assembles those parts in a system. This team is responsible for the entire build of the system which promotes accountability for quality and pride of ownership. The system then goes through testing.
Testing - Systems are received into testing for Dell designed diagnostic testing and software download. This includes 200+ titles available in Dell's software library, as well as proprietary and commercial packages, as requested by DellPlus Customers. Upon successful completion of Testing, the system moves to the boxing phase.
Boxing - Completed systems are placed in boxes along with the mouse, keyboard, power cords, documentation and manuals as requested by the customer. Once the Boxing is complete, the system box is sealed and placed on the appropriate truck for shipment to our customer.

Shipping prep is normally completed within one day of the date production is complete. However, larger orders and orders requiring special handling may take longer.

i did it
i bought the dell inspiron 6000d laptop
i changed the config from the original config of what i was plannign to buy.
-esp the mouse got removed
-a dvd+/-rw burner got put in
-9 cell battery out
-6 cell battery in
-got the better looking sxga+ display instead of the xga
-1.6Mhz pentium m with 533mhz fsb
-512 mb ram on 2 sticks
-60 gb hdd
-128 mb ati radeon x300 graphics card
-8X DVD+/-RW
and the other standard dell options
oh yeah, i got windows xp home put in coz its cheaper.
im pondering abt what os i want to install..the xp or get more adventerous and get the machine a linux o/s.

inspire me
mihir and i have planned to buy a laptop each. we worked together at avi on sat ntie and thats when we decided we would go for it.and we i found a good deal (600$ off the $1699 inspiron coupon), i was sure i was getting one.
the conflict was in which i wanted to buy. there were 3 basic options
the 600m
the 700m and
the 6000
all 3 are inspirons. 700m is the really compact cool version. but it might be too small for me,if i wanted to get some heavy duty applications running. besides i cant add an extra graphics card.the display is the best though. the original love.
then the comprimise would be the 600m. it has all the features of the 700m in size and weight, but i dont likethe screen.it is a regualr one and not the widescreen type.
and then i founf the 6000. it is the larger 15.1' version of the 700m.

the conflict was in which i wanted to buy. there were 3 basic options
the 600m
the 700m and
the 6000
all 3 are inspirons. 700m is the really compact cool version. but it might be too small for me,if i wanted to get some heavy duty applications running. besides i cant add an extra graphics card.the display is the best though. the original love.
then the comprimise would be the 600m. it has all the features of the 700m in size and weight, but i dont likethe screen.it is a regualr one and not the widescreen type.
and then i founf the 6000. it is the larger 15.1' version of the 700m.

i dont have a title for this blog post
its been some time since ive blogged. ive been busy in a differnet sense. i havent had time to sit down collect my thoughts and pen them down. volleyball has been aregualr weekend fun and i look forward to it. our kind of group activity. weekends is usually late arrival to college spend some time around go to rec and back.
one thing im happy about is we (venky and me) are going to the rec everyday. as much as possible. the only thing i'd like to do is swim more often. maybe if i get the swim shorts here (college/lab) ill do it more often
spring break was catch-up week. bewaars wanted to plan to go somewhere but it dint wokr out. everyone was busy doing their thing.
dr.j has some new projcts coming up.its nice but i dont want to be part of it as it would take up more of my time and i won't be able to graduate in the summer(as planned :p).

aviator
watched avaiator yesterday nite. it started slow but the movie finally took off. and towards the end provided some thrills and spills. leo di cap was good in the movie.he was better than the 2nd part of 'beach'. the actresses failed to impress me.it has quite a star cast. also i watched half of ocean's 12 while cooking. since i was expecting the worst, it dint turn out so bad.let's hope it finishes off the same way.

after the gushing of feelings about india, things here have been very hectic, so no time to blog, think or feel anything. i hardly notice if this is a weekday or a weekend. the only thing that differentiates it is whether the bus is here or not.if its a weekend there's no bus.and vice versa
i am now more used to the usa and things are back to normal.but still india trip was amazing.

the first week back after india has been a long and a difficult one. the longing to see the folks and brothers has been enormous. i am not a very emotional guy when it comes to family. however the thought that i may not see these ppl for some time - my own people - my family. i have spent 21 years with them. not just parents: uncles, aunts, cousins, grandparents, brother.
like suri told me: friends are family you choose.
here are family you can choose.
if i had to choose a family, i will choose these people over and over again. the fallacies and the quirks are the things that make me love them more than ever.
the thought of seriously shifting back after a couple of years here is more serious now than ever. sure, you must be htinking, so says everyone else. i wonder if this is the time they say that.i think i seem to be coping with this worser than anyone else. though everyone must be feeling it inside.like me. like amarnath.

return to the us
i have spent the last one month in india. i have thoroughly enjoyed all the sights and sounds of india. all the thrill and frill. i will be returning back by the next week and shud be in full wing back into my fgpa work. i am very sad abt this (leaving india - missing people here) but i have to do it. i can choose. but i am not shah rukh khan in swades. i cant afford to build a bulb and be happy. i need to prove more stuff before i can become a hero.
in other news, i bought a 2 piece suit here at life style. i shud pick it up from altering by tomm.
as for the excuse as to why my blogging and website dev has reduced, i think i have as good excuse as any. im in india and the primary audience for the blog is here, although i have heard good stuff being said about it always.

swades
excellent movie. shah rukh excelled. gayatri joshi was stunning. totally inspiring movie about indians living abroad and rediscovering india. ahsutosh said lagaan is patriotic, swades is nationalistic. thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
in bad news the tsunami killed more than 13000 as of now. i am afraid my trip to vizag cud get cancelled. lets hope it doesnt. i have to call suri and confirm.

I'm in India. a little delayed. a little tired. a little jet-lagged. but in one whole and hearty piece. it is a great feeling to visit your home town, state,country after a period of time. the anticipation surrounding seeing your loved ones far overpowers the mental abiltiy to stay focused on the work at hand during the last 15 days.
on another note, i have been listening to swades here almost twice a day. i am scheduled to see this movie on the saturday at sangeet. the songs are amazing. a point that needs not be noted as it is ar rahman.

the aura surrounding this great personality is covered by the humility that he shows. his smile stands out as the first thing you notice. we are indeed fortunate to be an audience to his ever so popular music. i am still proud that he is an indian. i hope the world recognizes the genius and gets to enjoy the man and his music.

the dps video that has been covered on the news. it makes me kinda sad. the media hype around the incident and the school kis..i repeat kids doing such acts of unwiseness. i always beleieved we(indians) had a sense of ethics while we live in our lives. tell me how different is this from the paris hilton video. this kind of thing is humiliating to the indian public. more shame on the media to have covered such stuff. ndtv has instantly lost a lot of points on thier ethics rating. call me biased, but i think nothing justifies this coverage.not by indiatimes, not by ndtv , not by any other source that has done this, ill have to check what "the hindu" had to say about this. i felt guilty personally when i saw it. i wonder how the parents must feel and not to mention the guilty party themselves.

fruits of joy
after a lot of hard work and effort, finally two things have come to fruit.
1. the diya 2004 intro video was shown at the isco festival and we think we got a good applause. it was appreciated and i think it was well worth the effort.
2. the website that ive been wokring on since start of october..the home page is also set. it might be a little complicated to understand what im trying to convey but its nice to see what i can do wihtout with a little hard work and will power.
also this helps in breaking the blogging deadlock that ive had for the last few days.

isco disco :-)
this time's isco's party promisies to be a good one. all the isco guys are working hard as liek th rpevious panels to make is a bigger success than last times. of course i am also involved closely this time although a week back i dint know that. i am doing the intro video and also the sound for the whole show. that will take some effort. i shud have to coordinate with the artists time and their cd's convert into mp3's etc.so cool, shud be fun. though i must admit the vlsi project has kinda gone into backburner.

life as it seems
its been some time since i blogged. nothing intereting is happening. i work at avi, i work at lab, i eat, i sleep,i watch movies, i chat sometimes and thats about it. and oh yeah i develop my new home page. check out the preview page.
