swades

excellent movie. shah rukh excelled. gayatri joshi was stunning. totally inspiring movie about indians living abroad and rediscovering india. ahsutosh said lagaan is patriotic, swades is nationalistic. thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
in bad news the tsunami killed more than 13000 as of now. i am afraid my trip to vizag cud get cancelled. lets hope it doesnt. i have to call suri and confirm.
i think im gonna drop watching polar express 3d today and go watch it on the wed. rahul and rohit might come along, os i booked 3 tickets.

shades of gray

the world is full of people. none of them are black or white. they are all each of a shade of the thousands of varities of gray.
-ex cia operative/agent
reg - the assasination of a jerry bull who built the world's largest super gun for the iraqis. the rumor is that the americans cut his(jerry's) funding and jerry started working for the iraqis. he got assasianted by either the israeli mossad or the american cia. he was shot 5 times on the back side. the first on the back of the head. he was probably dead by the time he hit the floor.

India - swades - ar rahman

I'm in India. a little delayed. a little tired. a little jet-lagged. but in one whole and hearty piece. it is a great feeling to visit your home town, state, country after a period of time. the anticipation surrounding seeing your loved ones far overpowers the mental abiltiy to stay focused on the work at hand during the last 15 days.
on another note, i have been listening to swades here almost twice a day. i am scheduled to see this movie on the saturday at sangeet. the songs are amazing. a point that needs not be noted as it is ar rahman.
ar rahman
the aura surrounding this great personality is covered by the humility that he shows. his smile stands out as the first thing you notice. we are indeed fortunate to be an audience to his ever so popular music. i am still proud that he is an indian. i hope the world recognizes the genius and gets to enjoy the man and his music.

Wowwee! Copied from Arsenal.com

'MR ARSENAL' WINS FAN OF THE MONTH

Arsenal supporter Keith Martin has won the prestigious Barclays Fan of the Month Award for November. Muswell Hill based Keith clocked up an astonishing 4,000 miles last month alone watching his beloved team, and owns a ticket stub and programme for every game he has attended since 1963. Referred to as 'Mr Arsenal' by fellow supporters, 50-year-old Keith never misses a fixture home or away including pre-season, and has followed the Gunners for 40 years all over the world. The only game he has missed was Arsenal v Leeds in 2000, a fixture that coincided with the London Marathon Keith was running for charity to support his father who has Parkinson’s Disease. Needless to say he ran round the 26 mile course as quickly as possible, and managed to get back home and watch the second half.

issues

the dps video that has been covered on the news. it makes me kinda sad. the media hype around the incident and the school kis..i repeat kids doing such acts of unwiseness. i always beleieved we(indians) had a sense of ethics while we live in our lives. tell me how different is this from the paris hilton video. this kind of thing is humiliating to the indian public. more shame on the media to have covered such stuff. ndtv has instantly lost a lot of points on thier ethics rating. call me biased, but i think nothing justifies this coverage.not by indiatimes, not by ndtv , not by any other source that has done this, ill have to check what "the hindu" had to say about this. i felt guilty personally when i saw it. i wonder how the parents must feel and not to mention the guilty party themselves.
in better news, suri has left for india by the time i finsh writing this. i have another 5 days to go. i am living on the anticipation. thanks to joe for the drive to the airport(twice in our case).
the irony of life looms large on the spirit of the youth.is this what life is about: the rollercoaster. we surely have some serious thrill issues to be doing this.(riding the coaster)

fruits of joy

after a lot of hard work and effort, finally two things have come to fruit.
1. the diya 2004 intro video was shown at the isco festival and we think we got a good applause. it was appreciated and i think it was well worth the effort.
2. the website that ive been wokring on since start of october..the home page is also set. it might be a little complicated to understand what im trying to convey but its nice to see what i can do wihtout with a little hard work and will power.
also this helps in breaking the blogging deadlock that ive had for the last few days.

isco disco :-)

this time's isco's party promisies to be a good one. all the isco guys are working hard as liek th rpevious panels to make is a bigger success than last times. of course i am also involved closely this time although a week back i dint know that. i am doing the intro video and also the sound for the whole show. that will take some effort. i shud have to coordinate with the artists time and their cd's convert into mp3's etc.so cool, shud be fun. though i must admit the vlsi project has kinda gone into backburner.

arsenal's 49

arsenal has left a mark on me. considering that 49 is a number that i fancy, i have nevere evn thought that arsenal's run would be stopped at the 49th match. beleive me i wud like to see the 449th match unbeaten. but when they got stopped at 49 they are more of a team i stand and support esp after the way manu players have reacted on the pitch and mr riley(the referee) too. the list and link of the top goal scorers and most appearances are in the link. click on the title.
now this had to be blogged

naa autograph

after a long time i have seen a movie in telugu which seems to make sense and isnt bad. the movie, is of course already in tamil, stars ravi teja and few other actresses. it is basically a story of a person and the memories he has with all these ppl (mostly women ) and how they always seem to get away from him. he however turns out to be for the better thru the experience. iknow only bhoomika in that movie. the others i have nevere seen though they have a quality that makes u turn back once more just to look at the face. not beautiful. bhoomika looks good. but he other two have a look on their face that has been well put up.well done director dude.
:)
a smile on the face coz today we also got the usb core finally on the fpga to work.it has sent us the info. the lock singal was giving us trouble. thankfully we were saved a lot of trouble by not needing to go through the process of simulation in the core.

quotable quotes

amtrak has their monthly magazine for reading in their trains. while i was travelling on them i got hold of this article which has the title " RE-IMAGINE, IF YOU WILL.... - A reading list for history's other leading minds"
i am going to quote some of the names and thier "motto's"
  • socrates (469-399 BC): answer every question with a question
  • confucius (551-479 BC): be humble. learn. don't traust fast talkers.
  • leif eriksson aka erik the viking (970-1020AD): vatch out for that iceberg! ( no spelling mistake in the v)
  • niccolo machiavelli (1469-1527AD) : sometimes you have to step on a few heads to get to the top
  • benjamin franklin (1706-1790): never fly a kite during a lightining storm
  • sigmund freud (1856-1939): tell me about your mother, and I'll tell you about you
  • mahatma gandhi (1869-1948): fight the good fight - without actually fighting

there you go!what do u think?

smoke all you can

keeping up with the tradiotion of travelling in the long weekends, we bewaarz, went to the smoky mountains in north carolina/tenessee.
we went to a lot of places. there were 9 of us. 2 cars . we dorve 550 miles each way
highlights of the trip:
  • we met anjani on the way back thru lexington,ky
  • we got to spend quailty time together and know each other more closely than we wanted probably.
  • the lost sea (an underground cave of water abt 4.5 acres in size)intriguing
  • ripley's acquarium where we saw fish of evry kind and even got to topuch some of them.
  • the drive itself was a frenzy of excitement and anticipation
  • me and srikanth have only temp's ( so sailu and vinay had to be with us all the time)
  • vinay ran into the door of sailu's car while parking.ramki opened the door while vinay was parking.one of those freaky accidents. luckily we were completely covered thru enterprise
  • we took almostr 700 photos. of which i have to go thru and sort and edit and filter etc etc before i can post them.

bewaarz consists of: me, chintu, vinay, sailu, srikanth, surendra, ramki, tilalk, ananth, midhun and inthe future anjani. of these surendra and anjani dint ocme with us. suren coz he was visiting friends in NH and anjnai coz he's in KY busy with assignment.so we visited him instead.

on the whole the trip was a success of sorts like every trip i undertake.

the mountains were amazing to look at. apart from the above stuff we also went hiking , camped in tents , eat from a grill(felafel-veggies and chicken-non-veggeis), dint take bath for 4 days as there are no facilities there.and a lot of stuff like that

update: i have put up the photos using banana album at http://www.eng.utoledo.edu/~sbhimava/my_photos/smoky/index.htm

meanwhile i stayed at rajiv's place during the trip to springfield. he's over at columbus and we got to see the univ over there. IT IS HUGE. also went to watch the movie sky captain and the world of tomorrow.bogus:(

springfield

ive been to the osc technical symposium over at their springfield office. it was held in the marriot. i learnt a lot of stuff and a lot of interesting ideas were presented by ppl at the lead of their respective fields within the fpga world. venki came with me and vince met us there.
the food was abundant.if nothing , i felt that i eat enough to cover my general fees that i paid at toledo. cray sposnered the event. cray gets money from osc. osc is made of colleges thru ohio. and ut is one of them. and i paid gen.fees at ut. so i paid for the food there indriectly. rather a very bad way of putting it.

trip?

the last week hasnt seem much activity in me. just regular stuff. we played a cricket match during the weekend. the isco tournament. we lost big time. i picked up two wickets and i think chintu also picked up a wicket. i was the man left not out. but i had scored 6 till then. i am still, proud of that achievement. maybe thinking back i should have opened or come one down. nobody wanted to stay. it was easy hitting coz they gave us huge gaps in the field to exploit. i felt like how rahul dravid feels.wag the tail and eat the snail.
i am planning an india trip in december. i started looking late so i dont know if i got the best deal. but i think i got the best deal now.currently.1500$ for a trip from Detroit to hyd and back on emirates with a stop-over at dubai while returning doesnt seem too bad. i know ppl who have bought it for a higher price and ppl who have bought it for a lower price but with a lower airline. this flight wont have any long delays and waiting at any place.not much at least. hopefully everything passes off cool. i book tickets this afternoon. "tickets" meaning anjani is also coming. i almost persuaded chintu in to coming, but he changed his mind last night.

third twin

third twin...a story by ken follet..i like the earthquake book of his better...where a guy tries to simulate earthquakes in florida. this one is abt gentics and clones. how a guy is cloned and he has different look-alike brothers(8 of them) each of whom is different in character. from faultless guys to majot murderers. the story dragged on a little. i stopped atlas shrugged so that i can finish and return fountainhead.
fountainhead also seems boring once you know the thing abt ayn rand and her style of wrting. sure the story is different and myabe it keeps u glued to it. but that is true of every book i read. this one disappointed me since i was so looking forward to this. it is in the same style as atlas shrugged.i repeat this point to stress on it. i havent finshed it yet, but hopefully it ends better than it starts.

balaji...pittsburg balaji!

this trip was the simple reason that i wanted to tick pittburg off my checklist of places seen and visited. its a nice city. the downtown is clean and mug-free. the crowd is friendly and the day we went (sept 11) , there was a festival of some kind going on. the temples are a little away from the city itself. the sv temple is at pitt hills abt 40 min away from the city and the sai baba temple is another 20 min from this temple. the food was ok. nohting special.at least on that day. the crowd was not huge either. considering its a saturday.
going to a temple and getting archana done makes you recall the things like gothram etc. i was in a fix reg that. mom used to say "kucchusa". thatha had once said "kutchusa", i think. i seem to have mixed both and said a mumble-jumble like "kutcchusa". also i dint know my nakshatram(birth-star). though i vaguely recall mine being something prominent, maybe "alpha-centauri" though in telugu.(just a joke).
there were 5 of us. me,chintu, saily and midhun. and one frinds of rahul's called pradeep. the drive was abt 4 hrs. i shudve gotten my license done by now. poor sailu had to drive all the way.
eventless trip but not boring. the one thing kind of bother was money in cash. we ran out of cash and though we all had credit cards, none of the rest on the way wud accept that. so we were planning on drawing some from the atm when i realised that i had a 100$ from the time i had brought it to the us. from the india. we used that. no point getting charged at the atm for non-local bank usage.

pawan kalyan down! down!

to make a mistake once is forgivable. to make it twice is unforgivable. i made the mistake of going to a telugu movie without reading reviews and listening to friends again. this one was by pawan kalyan(though he got someone else's name on the director title). there is no doubt abt it. i thought i cudnt give a more scathing review to a movie after last week's debacle "arjun". but i have to exceed my extremes and still fall short of this movie's crude level. there was a barely bearable 40 minutesin bewtween which had comic relief for the audince. that part was by the villain and his uncle.
there is no story. if there is one, it is hidden by so many things that watching citizen kane again would make more sense.
but what can i do. i have to call telugu my mother tongue and i'm proud of it. make no mistake. but to call telugu movies my own, from my own, for my own, by own ppl is not very pride-giving. i am embarassed to say so. but its the truth. this is what olga once told me abt telugu movies: "i heard that telugu movies are cheesy." true for all the post 90's movies.
even the most hard-core fans of pawan kalyan will/have not forgive this mistake. again calling it a mistake is an understatement of the infinite magnitude.
next day we left for pittsburg.

non~book time

its been some time since ive written abt a book. two reasons. 1. i havent had much time to read books and write the review.2. i have been reading ayn rand's atlas shrugged. so it will take some time to finsih it. i have read it before so its not a surprise to my brain but it still revolutionizes thinking. ali hasnt read it yet and i recommended it to him just for the sake of reading somehting unconventional. i also ordered foutnain head form ohiolink for further 'ayn rand'-ing.
i will be going to pittsburg for the weekend. it shud be nice to see what i have been talking abt for some time. we'll be going to the temples there and also the city if possible. they have a good downtown and it shud be fun just walking there. i'll take a lof of photos i promise, if i can still hang onto mihir's digicam. also apologies to thise who are waiting for the cedar point photos. i think ill go to mihir's house and collect it from him(the cable).
in other very pleasant news, i received my cd from amazon.com from cdwarehouse. the cd copsts only 2.99 and the shipping costed me around 2$. so i got the title ive craving for more than 5 years ultimately.it has been worth the wait. though im kinda disppointed. but i think the disappoinment is from all the anticipation, kind of. i expected this disappointment before i even ordered the cd.

cedar pointed?

we went to cedar point yesterday. the rides were amazing. just the thrill of going through was worth every dollar. we took about 6-7 rides. more importantly,we went through the main rides. the top thrill dragster, the millenium force were easily the most mind-numbing and thrill giving rides. the mantis was another very new style ride. you are actually standing through the ride. i will put up the photos as soon as i get them.
the dragster takes you to a height of 450 ft in about 3.5 seconds and drops you in a lesser time.that feeling cannot be described in words.
just click on the cedar point link to see what i mean.
we went to the rides on a bus. about 30 of us including chinkus.it was fun

arjun?

i saw the movie 'arjun' in the novi center in detroit suburbs. it was a lousy movie save for a few jokes scattered around. the humour was also provided by the villain. people were actally laughing at the hero for his superhuman ability to fly-kick more than 3 people at once. the cinema could have been bearable if the fight sequences were more realistic. this is supposed to be one of telugu cinemas' most awaited movies of the year and a lot has been spent on the making.this is the state of tollywood. while movies like yuva are being conceived in tamil we are lagging behind in originality.
i think actually they built a temple for the movie. it is a replica of the madurai temple. so the ppl living around atleast now have a temple. what saving grace!
mahesh babu was as usual the guy with a girl's voice. the heroine supposed to be wasnt in the movie for more than a dozen minutes. the hero's sister was played by keerthi reddy. she did a better job.
the best actor in this movie is prakash raj. he plays the villain.prakash raj is the best man around telugu cinema. he is more movies than i have ever seen in the recent times. he plays the father or brother or villain in every alternate movie.
thoughout the movie the hero's name is never said except at the end when he announces his name.if it was supposed to have saved the movie from the fallacies it has commited earlier, it fails miserably.
so much for arjun.
while tamil movies are bad and lousy, at least their industry is making a conscious effort to make better and original movies. our industry is lacking the very basic essence of a original movie. even the so called hits like 'manmadhudu' have some sequences lifted off from the 'holly' or 'bolly' woods.
enough bad-mouthing for today.
in other news, i have decided to make a list of the movies i have seen through the recent years and those i can remember. i am contemplating as to how i should divide those categories
options:
1. language-wise: english , telugu, tamil, hindi
2. genre: action, drama, telugu (ha, ha: now u see my state of mind abt telugu movies)
3. date-wise: as per the year i have seen
4. list: just a long list with no distinction.

college..fall 2004

college starts tomorrow....or rather today....it s already 12..im chatting with mom
i have to get my courses changed. i had to take an independent research under dr.heuring (thanks for the help, amy) coz dr.j wasnt in college on friday. now, today i have to hope dr j turns up and signs a form for me to add thesis and drop the research.
amy helped me alot. heck, she even knows my last name and email by heart by now.
vijay is my roomate. she shifted in today.
i watched patch adams yesterday. i had already seen it once long back. some scenes were hear rendering. i dont know what's hapenning. either i'm watching good movies and enjoying all of them OR im beginnign to like verey movie i see without any like or taste.
and all the books too. they have kinda bland now. i wud enjoy a book otherwise.but now all the books also seem to have the same principle. and there is no differnece. maybe i shud read stuff liek ayn rand and stop all the thrillers/suspense/spy/regular kind of novles genre.
and with toast to that thought...signing off

red dragon

after this frighful movie, the picture in my mind about hannibal lecter is complete. edward norton plays a wonderful role in this compilation. he is one of lecter's victims i realsie. i had thought mason verger was the only one. i am going thru the case files of dr lecter. brilliantly conceived. truly gruesome.matches jack the ripper or evene exceeds him in his cruelty.
this is one of the best movies in the category of grossness+violence+horror in a sense.im ogingback to toled oon thursady

houses in america

american houses have the starngest tendency. they are made of wood. that is not what makes them peculia. the wood is saggy after a few years under the sun, rain, snow etc:the natural elements.. this causes the houses to creak. when i first landed here,it usedto give the creeps. all the furntire creaks. the stairs groan under the heavy weight of ppl walking. they give out strange noises one per step. the beds...the beds are the worst. everytime i sleep in the guest room of roni's house. evrydamn time i spend an uncomfrtable night dreaming of creaking noises. add to that effect the affect of horror movies like the red dragon which im watching now,or movie like the cell (*ing j.lo) which has abnoramlly abnormal scenes in it. i am happy after i finish with the nite.

smithtown

i am in smithtown. in roni mama's place. the weekend and today monday. i am aiming to get back to toledo atleast or the sake of plyaing doom3. in other news, i cleaned the swimming pool and and also the news that the shcolarship for the masters has been granted. thanks venky for the help and support thruough out this period.
i am thinking abt going back on the wed and recaing tol early morning next day.
till then i will enjoy this place, the big tv,movies, f1, premiership soccer.
talking of soccer, ars was amazing in their dmeolition of everton.also news of chelsea beating manu has been helpful. somehoe though chelski has the better chance of winning i feel the more challenging opponents will be manu. arsenal has the teeam i can be proud of. ppl were supporting manu and real during ars's tough period. i kept saying watch and see. now u can see the height ars have reached. the thing missing is a cl. we stand a good chanc in the next 5 years.

independance day

i spent india's indepednce day in new york city. i was in the parade with the telugu association. i went along with vijaya aunty.when i was told there would be a float i thought the float would be on water. i dint think it was the parade type float used during such days. stupid me! the day was an experience. i spent the day meeting new people and doing new stuff. we walked with the float and telugu community. i got to see ar rehman, dino morea and miss india-america(not that they are significant ,except for arr). we walked right past them and only then i realised that was arr. like every genius, he was simple and i could have easily not spotted him. he reminds me of sachin. he is in every aspect like sachin. quite, humble, freak geniuses in their own respect etc.
the streets of ny were blocked on the 42nd street.thats an importnat street. there's gct, chrysler. i was told that for evry ethnic country this kind of thing is done. ther was also a intl food festival going on. unfortuntetly , i found that out only after i had already eaten subway.
the streets were aligned with ppl and it was an unforgettable experience. once in a life this ishud be done. a couple of things which struck me as strange. no flag hoisting. probably that wud be coz we are in a different country. and also while we were chanting slognas in praise of our motherland and state, there was also chanting for god bless america. while i do not wish any harm to the country or the denizens of usa,i think that was wrong and wud have been nice if avoided. the day belongs to india and it shud be in total harmony for the same.but they are small incidents.
IMP: IF ANYONE SAW ME ON TV WRITE BACK.THERE WERE A LOT OF CAMERAS SHOOTING AND I WAS IN A FAVROABLE POSITION FOR SUCH SHOTS.

gratitude

this is the acknowledgement from vince flynn's third option. it is very nice.
quote
it is extremely gratufying to make a living doing somehting that you love.it is even more so when you are surrounded by ppl you like, trust and respect. thank you for making me so happy.
unquote

the prelude also is worth wirintg abt here:
quote
avr americans are too busy living their lives to look beyond the headlines and wonder what secrest these ppl may have taken to their graves. among those in teh know eyebrows may have raised and aeven a few question asked, but ultimately a bling eye is turned and life goes on. to seek answersfro mthisdark community is a very dangerous thing. it is the world of covertoperations, a very real but unseen part of teh govt's foreign and sometimes domestic polic. it is bigger than any one person. it is the t3rd option and it is one that is not always used by wise adn honorable men.

la troisième option

the third option
finished in 2 days. this is a classical cia - fbi - individual terrorist hunter kind of story. it is by vince flynn. a less known author.i had enjoyed the book in a way. it makes light reading for the fact that it is not overly complicated.it might even give an insight into the working of the cia and the govt.
the hero is mitch rapp. he is a terroist hunter operating for the cia only informally. the team orion. the cia has complete deniability if he gets caught. the director of the cia plays an old guy who is a mastermind (he has cancer and is dying though). the refreshing quality is that the hero does not find the ultimate mole in the book. the author leaves it in a hanging way. the hero knows how to get to the rogue senator, but has to chose to do it.
the third option is named so coz it is the only way out when diplomacy fails and military action is not an option. hence the third option.covert mission to kill the terrorists or the perpetrators.
there are other charaters who are vital but are not very noteworthy for this review. like the person who is taking over the directorship from cancer affected. there is mitch's girlfreind, her best friend and her husband , mitch's best friend scott coleman etc etc. the president is also involved in this op very openly. the main objective was to kill saddam's weapon supplier. he is killed and then micth's help tries to kill him. the story is basically trying to find who and why!
so much for the story.it is on the lines of a tom clancy..maybe the detail isn't on guns and the op but on the talk.
on other news....
today we went to see some houses for ramam and then we went to taco bell for lunch. i like their mexican pizza and that's what i ordered.
tomm work starts agina after the long weekend i had. this will be my last week at iic. im planning to go to roni's place after the stint here. rama atta also invited me to their place for thanksgiving or xmas. i have to see abt that .
college starts on 21st. that is another concern. i have to regiuster for 9hrs thesis. amy gaertner hasnt agreed to my taking 7 theses and 2 reseacrch. i have to take 2 independant study next sem, or maybe a computer course or two.

bowdoin park

rama atta, ramesh mama, harsha, deepti and veena had come over during the weekend. it was fun spending time with them. we went for a picnic at the bowdoin park. it has a nice view of the hudson valley river. we all played frisbee for some time and then harsha and me played for some more time getting the art almost to perfection. we watched a couple of movies later that day . munna bhai mbbs and gothika. munna was funny while gothika was run of the mill.only thing abt gothika is it has linkin park's behind blue eyes as ost.
today i watched cody banks2. it was not a very good movie. though the heroine who must be 16-17 was a cameron diaz lookalike. she cud be baby spice also for all u know.

sick

last night i was sick. i had a lot of chills and shivers. i haven't felt that sick since 2 -3 years back when i had a fever. i was wondering i had to do get treatment. it is kinda worrying thinking abt the costs , procedures etc for something as simple as a fever or even anyhting major. there's quality definately..but .... there is that but ..i cant explain it.
i was actually checking up on malaria and the symtoms and causes excactly matched what i was feeling etc.
look at this site
http://www.cdc.gov/travel/malinfo.htm
well i feel good enough now to write this . i have not had any chills or fever. it was all like a bad dream. which for all i know it could have been. i always get these chills only at night.i dont know why.

the weeeeknd

the last two days have seen me experience a lot of things i had always wanted to do. some of them were as good or even better than expected, while a few ( i must add very few) have been disappointing.
the most disappointing was the loss of india in the cricket match against sri lanka for the asia cup. a strtling fact out of this is that india has lost 10 of the 13 finals it has reached in the last 3 years. that is a very prominent statistic. maybe a more appropriate word is startling. it means india has reached the finals .,...so it did well to reach the finals..but is hasnt been able to provide the final thrust needed to win... its as if the energy is exhausted for that final thrust from being spent at the pre-stages.
apart from this, arsenal drew with ajax. both are excellent teams. ajax wud be the team most close to arsenal in my opinion. they are similar to arsenal. arsenal continues to not lose even if does not win. so the streak is still there.though it will argued by rohit. he still manu is the best..it clearly is not alone at the top.
coming to the more important things and things which are more related to me directly. i went to hershey park a theme park in hershey, pennsylvania (wow, thats tough to spell..maybe i spelt it rong) for the weekend. it is a huge park. it has lots of rides for ppl of all ages. it is a nice place and the weather which was threatening all week to spoil our fun decided to postpone its inclementiveness. this does sound like an ad for hershey. i will post pics in a few days. the roller cosaters were amazing. ther is one called the sooperdooperlooper. ucant expect how it feels like just from the name. it is all that is says it is. otherwise i enjoyed a lot of rides with sindhuri. anirrudh , sindhuri and me, all of us cud go on a few rides and we all enjoyed it. the music express and the one which round within a round comes immediately to mind.
i finished reading rising sun by michael crichton. im ist say thought politically based, it does have excellent abse to it.i enjoyed reading it throughly.
by the way, hershey park is from teh makers of hershey chocolates...so we spent today in the chocolate world.that was quite an experience too.
one of the fuuny features of today was i forgot get my belt for the trip. i was weraing loose trousers and i was roaming around 500 ppl with pants loose and me holding onto them for the day.
now i gotta get ready for the week
im ready for it

aménagement

landscaping
i spent the weekend at roni's palce. abha is in india, so it was just the 4 of us. we spent sat lazning around and sunday we did alittle work on the front yard. the part of the yard near the drive way had a lot of weeds. roni use weedkiller to kill those a week back. we pulled out the weeds and then put grass seeds in and then top soil. i learnt a lot abt landscaping.
we went out to a mexican restuarant for dinner.i had the chili cheese releno(i think!). it was heavy and i am burping and belching today thru out.
roni dropped me at office directly in the morning today.it was a 3-3.5 hr drive. he will be one tired uncle after sleeping at 3 and getting up at 5 and playing golf the whole evening today with his office pals. atleast for that sake i hope his ranking improves. he missed a couple of rounds in between when he was in india, so he dropped from 2 to 5.

le grand vol de train

"the gr8 train robbery"
i finished reading this book on the subway ride to ny city. ppl were looking strangely at me. i dint realise why till i looked at the cover of the book. it was just coiinceidence that i was reading a train robbery book on a train. no wonder they were a little aghast.
this is one of the best michael crichton's i've ever read. it has absolute best last chapter. it is like lotr. the last chapter is worth the whole book. in this chapter the master criminal explains the way he carries out the robbery. and he also tells the whole world that he is about to escape and does so. it must've made a good movie. i am hoping to see it in the next few months.
the plot is to rob the train containgin 12000 £ .the key is to obtain 4 keys put at diff places. the objective is attained with great precision and care. the way obtained is also explained in great detail. the book makes a nice reading.i enjoyed it thoroughly.the master criminal in this, we can draw a parallel from sherlock holmes. though in a negative connotation.
i must've made quite an impression on the train while reading the last chapter.

the subway

yesterday after work i had taken the train to new york city and from there to roni's house. the new york city downtown i.e manhattan is connected by a subway(an underground rail service) called the shuttle. of course,i wasn't aware of it. shuttle ,in india, means a bus shuttle. so when a few wel;l informed passengers told me to take the shuttle and point downwards,i misunderstood as to there being a kind of bus service underground. when i found out that i had to take the train to get to penn station,i did take it.only i wound up in times square. by a stroke of luck i heard someone say that there would be another shuttle which takes me to penn. i ran and caught it. i was getting late for my 6:50 train to smithtown. after getting a little wet i reach penn station to find out the time is 6:49 and i was at the entrance. that wud sound as gud news if i had a ticket on me. i got on the train in a flash, running down the escalators and all a la filmi style. i did buy a ticket onboard.
every time i'm in ny, travelling alone, something happens.
first time roni drops me at jfk airport and my flight is overbooked. they(north west airlines) put me in a cab without my lugguage and i am rushed to la guardia with a weird lookin' lady. she was tatooed all over and she was pierced all over too. by the time i got over that shock i realise i mite be late for that flight too. i reach safely, call my ride from detroit to toledo and everything is fine.
the next time i take greyhound to ny city and spend the day site seeing: empire state building mostly. as im abt to take a train to white plains(roni's office), a latino dude bumps in to me. he makes hell of a noise abt me bumping into him and walking away. he made me stand in the middle of the road with abt 200ppl watching shout back at him that he was as much in fault as i was , if there was a fault ever. we resolved the issue with each of apologizing to one another and leaving. i think he dint want trouble with cops over such a matter.neither did i,but my concern was more on missing my train.
and now this.
i wonder what will happen should i ever get a job in manhattan.
GOD SAVE NYC.

la cloche sur le cercueil

"the bell on the coffin"

as i was reading the book "thre gr8 train robbery"(i've lamost completed it..review in a day or two), there was this very peculiar subject that mr crichton broached upon. the novel is based upon the victorian era of the english. when ppl died they were put in a coffin. that is a regular practice. once a 10 year old boy suffered this same tragic fate. ppl assumed he was dead for almst four days. so on the day of his burial at the cemetary, his guardian after putting the first fist of dirt on the coffin got the shock of their life when they could hear the boy shout"why ar eyou burying me?". the health care in those days wasnt the best and doctors assumed he was dead since he dint move for 4 days. but he was in a state of coma ofr those days.
this created quote a wildfire as ppl went back to the cemetary to chekc on thier loved ones..though they were 9 feet under..(or is 8 feet under?).
so a new invention by the ever-so-clever anglias was to put a bell on the outside of the coffin attached to the body inside. so that ever the slightest movement would trigger the bell and cz an alarm. this was a fad and the inventor made a lot of money within london itself.
a slight varaiation of this device was a tube through the coffin for the mortally-challeged to speak through. servants of the rich were made to sit at the cemetary waiting for the buried to speak for a period of almost a month after the death.
the return of the loved one...
the things ppl do for that one last word or sentence...
is life worth it..the agonizing pain..the denial..the suffering...
you betcha....it definately is...though i can't speak from personal experience....
take care and think about this next time you ring a bell

partie deux d'homme d'araignée

the highlight of this day is as the title mite conceive spiderman II.
the movie was all i expected, in a good way. yet it disappointed me. the movie lacked that killer punch. the movie had some gud dialogues i wud like to post on the blog.maybe when i get the video. the movie was along the lines of the narration. the start was (titles) was great. they showed the movie spiderman in a cartoonish way. the drawings were great and the upside down kiss (spidey and mjw) - the cartoon version still lingers in the brain. the dress color mjw was wearing is what is striking.
spidey is the loser dude. a lot of sympathy is being created or the driector was trying to create this. then he gives up the show.he's fed up with all.they actiually show him losing his powers. through the movie the villain docock is shown . he's nice guy turned bad turned gud at the end. spidey learns thru aunt and mjw and others that spidey is what is needed. surprisingly peter parker is revealed as spidey. does that warrant a spidey 3. never know. maybe so. at the end doc ock and spidey save the day together. peter ends up with mjw anyways though she's suppsoed to marry an astronaut.surprisingly the freind osbourne is shown with the green goblin outfit.he not wearing it but u read it first here if u see him as the goblin in the sequel.
ppl rate this better than the 1st. well, they are diff in a sense, though i wud rate the 1st better. i like cartoon heroes as the previos post's point. dont misinterpret me. the movie is worth a watch defintely or more than a watch. ill probably end up with the div-x anyways.

informaćion

always a lover of information,i am really happy when the advent of news has come tothe forefront. it is really pleasant to see the likes of google giving importance to news. they have used their search capabilities to good effect.( or is it affect?). they google news is dependant on that the most popular news that is being read through the globe is posted ont he news.google.com site. that does mean that the posts are themost popular and not always the most sensible. the avd is that i get to read what the online-world thinks is important.
another source that has appeared through these conquests(mine) of info is the site www.xinhuanet.com. its a chinese site so the content is in chinese.so u'll have to know chinese to read it .ok im just kiddin' they do have a anglais version also. http://www.chinaview.cn/. its a site where you get the most unexpected news. so good some bad.but definately something you wont expect.from chinese site atleast. hey im not against chinku's, but you dont expect news about indian polit5ics on the macro level speculation in that site.
well u have to have them all to make the web.

"enregistreur d'enchaînement".com

the title translates into "web logger".com which can be abbreviated to blogger.com
i am pleasantly pleased to see that blogger.com has made some changes o the way you blog. they have introduced more options in the create window. apart from the regular bold, italics, font, underline, they have the regular word style stuff. for a second, i expected something more. they disappoint me. well, its a start none the less .
actually as i delve through these , i do find some more options. ihave the option to upload to blogger, which was previously avaiable only through hello, their picture program.
UPDATE: google has bought picasa the picture(hello) program i was talking about.
today's blog isnt much large. just saw the new viedoes of thierry henry on the web on nikesoccer.com. he's one amazing athlete.i am losing some sleep on the thought of patrick viera going away from arsenal. though i dont think it will happen.
trying out a few c programs for a change today instead of the regualr java. got my old turbo c compiler running and stuff.checking out my old program is fun. though im sure i lost a few of them when my computer was last upgraded. :( too bad.
my other blog the photoscope hasnt been doing too well as it has not had much attention. maybe thru the weekend. also i got a new slogan for my blogoscope and photoscope.
bad news on the reading scene.no progress at all. while i was surfing i read another blog where la femme was listing the books shes read thru the year. her premise is 52 books in 52 weeks. not bad. shes doing well too. gud luk to her

[[last slogan:Hi...inspired by a friend who was inspired by another ..i have decided to blog... as he said... lets see how long it lasts...]]

"proie"

"prey"

the book i had already read once before.i like it.its thumbs up.there are a few very interesting conclusions in this book. a few passages are very enlightening. of course, its a fiction book. but a few passages(if they are not fiction) are very though provoking. the book is a typical crichton.
the hero is jack.he's a computer-bio mix engineer/programmer.he's developed stuff on distrubuted networking and predator-prey kind of algorithm's. his wife works for company called xymos.which makes a special kind of neuronano particels which cause some problems. so jack is called to the fab lab to help since his team designed this code.
when he gets there.everything is suspicious.there's been a leak and a few artificially inteliigent particles have escaped and started reproducing and controlling their own behavous. first he doesnt beleive it. but then the particles/swarm attck him convincing him of their nature to destroy like preadtor on prey.
jack tracks them and dertroys them in a comlicated fasion.when he comes back tothe plnt he realises his wife is the reason for the chaos and she's been infested by a variant of those particels which have co-evolved with julia(his wife) and others in the fab lab. he and a beautiful, cute(the side heroine) mae destroy the lab in a explosive way and the day is saved. avg story if u think abt it.but thought provoking to say the least.
this passge is in particular:

"If you compressed the history of life on earth into 24 hrs, then multicellular organisms appeared in the last 12 hrs, dinosaurs in the last hour, the earliest men in the last forty seconds, and modern man less than a second ago."

or this one
"there's an old question in ai abt whether a program can ever be aware of itself.most programmers will say it was impossible. ppl have tried to do it , and failed.
but ther's a more fundamnetsl version of the question , a philosophical quesiton abt whether any machine can understand its own workinggs.some ppl say that will be impossible too. the machine cant know itself for the same reason you cant bite your own teeht. and it certianly seems to eb impossible: the humanbrain si the most complicated structure in the known universe, but brains still know very little about themselves."

now that ive finished reading this..i dont know what ill do now..i know..i'll start on the great train robbery.my next book :p

update: after a few days of this post, this comes upFT.com /Management/Science & health

homme d'araignée

yesterday nite, i hooked up(to the net) and checked out the trailers and clippings from spiderman2. i have always been a fan of comics. and iam happy they are creating a sensation again. i do wish superman comes back as well and the others.batman..and they shud be more professional like the spidey series. peter parker(tobey) has been showing up a lot more now, for movie publicity most liekly. he's confirmed he will be making spidey3 with kirsten dunst. it shud start shuting early 2005.meanwhile i cant wait to see this movie.one of the stunts was terrific. the one on the clock tower.if u'veseen the movie u will appreciate it.me having esp already sense it to be the best scene of the movie, unless there's more of "less-clothed" dunst.

On the books scene: i am reading "prey" by crichton.ive read it bfore and rate it average. ill write the review when im done reading it. this weekend was mostly @ home. i spoke to roni m who had gone to india. vijaya a is coming on wednesday.she stayed back to see chintu. chintu is shooting a movie in ladakh, mom tells me. he's going places. iwont be surprised if he starts directing on his own. he reminds me of vikram(columbia) ,sudha a relative, now working for the un. when i worte to him in fall break asking him if he had holdays. he replied,we dont have fall break at the u.n. funny guy(in a gud sense).

one awesome looking blog showed up recently...

its like a console terminal..definately worth cheking out.

l'homme terminal

fool that i was. i sat down to write this blog when i looked down memory lane to see when i first wrote my 1st blog. fool that i was..april fool's day...more significantly it was also the day google launches their new email service..gmail..evryone thought it was a google prank..well it dint turn out to be so..did it,gmail invitees?

i keep getting letters from ppl for invites.i give as much as i can. i dont want to make the whole world prestigious.i for onwe like gmail adn evrything google stands for. i am volunteer in their quest for information in their effort to localise the google site in various languages. i have converted some part of the google website into telugu,my native tongue.

i have been to splashdown( a water park, where i lazed around), new jersey(edison, nj temple--i bought a shirt there) and the fireworks in fishkill creek for the long weekend. also and more importantly, i have finished mr.crichton's the terminal man. abt the book:

lets just say its definately crichton not at his best. his other books have had more punch in them. this seems to lack that punch. the story seems run of the mill. of course, i cud be wrong. it was one of his earlier books and he dint have his style of writing yet. also the concept cud be novel at the time of publishing , but not now. i know what wud happen even before half thru the book.

the book is about a guy, harold benson, who has motor epilepsy. he keeps beating ppl up and doesnt remember it. so he goes to this fancy hospital, nsu or nsa(or somthing acronym-ical), where they decide to do a stage three - control his brain thru computer when he has his seizures. unfortunately the computer take control of him instead. he has 40 electrodes in him and the detail of the operation/surgery is noteworthy, if not boring and trite. he escapes kills somemore ppl .also he has a hatred of machines and thinks machines are gonna take over the world. combine the 2 plots and rmapage follows. he kills somemore..and kills somemore. i thingk a total of abt 5-7 ppl are dead and lote more injured ultimately. he gets killed in the end by the heroine . i forgot abt her..there's a heroine who's a psychiatrist.she's all she needs to be.sexy, brainy etc etc
cya harry..ur dead.

update: funnily..even crichton agrees withe me..
What is your least favorite book you have written? Actually, it is TERMINAL MAN. I worked on it for 9 drafts and never felt I got it quite right. I don't to this day know what I would do differently, or what I should have done.

ha ha ha

while lookin for this book's link i founf michael crichton's link

mon mustachios

this might be an insignificant blog for the most of the people. but for me as a andhra - telugu - traditional upbringing guy , this is a big and significant step. also this blog is about the date mentioned above but actually has been blogged on a later date with updates.
i today wilfully and knowingly shaved off my moustache. il looked weird for the day. i shaved once before when i got my whole head shaved. but that was religious and i don't think that counts considering i had less hair on my head than above my lip. so how does the look go?
i hate it . i think i look dumb and kind of like a ruffian without brains.
latest update: i now dont think the above statement has any sense. itotally retract that statament. though the lack of brains cannot be completely disregarded. this has been my best look in all of my life(13th july 2004)
apart from the look the reaction from ppl hasnt been too bad.sure they thought i look bad and funny. but the guys with whom i went on the race have accepted the look and reached a comprimise with their brains not consdering me as someone they know.
oldest update: ramam and family dont think i look half as bad as i thought.i'm beginnign to beleive i can actually pull this off.(23 rd june2004)
update between the above two updates: tak9ing me as inspiration (or probably not), rohit my dearest brother has also shaved his moustche off. im sure he look like dc(david coulthard )with that huge fore head of his. he's already been compared to a few other ppl he tells me. yes, i spoke to family back home today.that's where i got this info(11th july 04)

my bday

a lot of things have hapenned since i've last blogged. first of all i celebrated my birthday on the eve of 1st june. and also ramki bday which also falls on the 1st of june. and then we've got vinay whose bday is on the 2nd of june. i went to franklin park mall on the 31st of may and bought a few shirts. and then on that nite i got a thrashing of my life by all. i think suri, venky and murali were the hardest. but srikanth and vinay were not silent either. and then there the consolation thrashing by the others. ramki also seem to have gotten a bad thrashing.
and the next day vinay gets thrashed too. and cake on his face along with other items namely cake, chocolate syrup, diced tomatoes , eggs(they stained the carpet..had to spend the nite cleaning them out after guests left)..and other stuff i mite not know.
well after those days things quietened down a little. i had other stuff going on too. like the internship thing. i got an offer as an intern in ny. so i had to be working for that . i had problems fulfilling the criteria for the oiss office and the eecs dept. as of now i think im going to ny after the usgp which is on the 19th and the 20th . those shud be fun days. tomm i get to register for the independant study course and the finish up formalities with the oiss office.
apart from those things, i have been working on the usb port in the free time. and also watched a tonnnn of movies. oh..my god i must have watched atleast 30-40 movies in the last 15 days. a lot of telugu, english and a few hindi movies.
well i have been reading scouring of the shire recently. i still think that is the best chapter of the book. it is worth getting a movies of its own. iwas mightily disappointed when the lotr 3 dint have anyhting aby this chapter.well i cant have everything . that still leaves a hope for a movie being made abt the chapter. hopefully signing off...

the hannibal

it took me exactly 1.5 days to finish this one. "the hannibal" . contrary to what my friend surendra was saying, the hannibal is the next part of the series.it comes after the silence of the lambs. so i have read the books in the order that they are supposed to be read. now it will be interesting to watch the movie. this is a current fad with me. read the book and then watch the movie. i have done several pairs liek that since ive come here to toledo. the godfather(all parts and book), sveral of mr michael crichton books and movies etc.

well coming back to dr lecter hannibal: this is about dr lecter completely. silence ofthe lambs shows that lecter is instrumental in the capture of buffalo bill. here the theme is capture of the hannibal the cannibal. the scene is set for 7 years after the escape and setting of the "silence...lambs". there is this one rich guy who was a victim of the hannibal who had survived.this guy was fed to the dogs. the dogs bit off his face and most of his body.mason. he has a sister called margot who is a lesbian and takes hormones to become a man.her fiancee is judy. clarice starling is setup in a way in a shooting that makess her look bad. she has to shoot a woman who's holding a baby. the baby's safe but clarice take blame.
so the scene is set. dr lecter instigates the follow up in himself once clarice is defamed. he sends her stuff and brings the heat upon himself. the italian police is in trouble as they realsie that lecter is in a place called florence in italy. dr lecter gets appointed as the curator to a museum. mason sets him up and gives a few sardinians the contract to get lecter fed to the pigs.mason is the leader for the pig industry. dr lecter somehow finds out from the plice officer who is upposed to catch and point him to the sardinians. lecter cuts him up and escapes.
he then travels to detroit and escapes the officials form noticing him. and so lecter is back on the land where he has killed so many ppl. mason realises that lectre might contact starling since she is the object of deisre of lecter. he plants an article in the enwspaper suggesting that clarice may have helped lecter escape. and so clarice is ssupended from duty. asclarice's bday approches mason is sure that lecter is going to gift her something personally. this turns out to be true . but mason's men are ready and they capture lecter. they take him to mason's farm for the pig-eating-man-alive ritual. clarice sees the sardianinas capture lecter and goes after them on her own. shes finds them ready to feed lecter to the pigs. she intervenes and frees lecter but gets shot. lecter takes her and escpes. most of the sardinians are killed. the one left is paid by margot to leave usa forever. he does so. she then kills mason after extarcting semen to impregant judy for thier baby. and they live happily ever after with the money. lecter and clarice become a pair and they with each other as more of a father -daughter relationship. they keep escpaing the law always and are seen in brazil also. here i find the story denegrating. the end is not as expected nor as exciting. the end few chapters taper down to a boring and dull finish. a few chazracters like barney, krendler for silence of the lambs make a reappearnce. leaves a disppointment at the end. :(
while searching for the hannibal inks, found this very picture..i am goinna just putit up here.

and also the link to the place go .

là où les aigles osent

i finished reading the book "where eagles dare" today. its a nice book about ww2 times. there is a subtle plot undergoing within the main plot. it is the age of double crossing and some treble crossing also. a brief desciption of things ahppening in the book along with the setting. its a typical alistair maclean(i though his name was mclean).

courtesy:whereeaglesdare.com
abt the book:

a team of british commandoes(along with 1 american) parachute into the high peaks of the austrian alps in the depths of winter. their mission: steal into a seemingly impreganble alpine castle - hq of the gestapo - and rescue a captured american general before he reveals the allies plans for the invasion of europe. but almost nothing is as itseems in alistair maclean's compulsively readable tale of special forces, black ops, and unpredictable allainces. where eagle dare - more timely than ever - is one of the greatest spy thrillers of the past half century.
main character: john smith(schmidt)
his heroine:mary austen
side kick: schaffer(american)
his gf: heidi(cutely described)
more abt heidi:( iliked the way maclean descibes her);read on:
one of them approaching caught smith's eye. it wud be surprising if she hadn't. it wud have been surprising if she dint catch the attention of everyman there. but there was no surprise. she did.she wud have won any miss europe contest hands down if she had had a face other than her own which though pleasant and plump, was rather plain. but any possible lack of attraction in that cheerfully smiling face was more than compensated for elsewhere. she was dressed in a gaily patterned dirndl and tyrolean blouse, has a hand span waist, an hour and a half glass figure and on obvious prediliction for low cut blouses that, in terms of attracting local custom, must have been worth a fortune to the gigantic proprietor behind the bar. she drew a gr8 deal of attention from the assembly soldiery, not all of it consisting of admiring glances: if she wasnt wearing armour plating, smith reflected, she must be permanantly blue and black. she approached smith, brushed back her blonde hair and smiled the gesture as provocative as the smile...
"can i help you,sir"
"dark beer,please" smith saif politely."six".
"with pleasure, sir" .again the provocative smile this time accomapnied by a half appraisal ,half lingering look from cornflower blue eyes, the nshe turned and walked away, if her method of locomotion could striclty be descibed as walking. schaffer, a slightly dazed expression on his face, stared after , then caught smith by the arm.
"now i know why i left montana, boss". his voice held somthing of the dazed quality on his face." it wasnt bcoz of the horses after all".

Silence des Agneaux

Today I think I finally completed "Silence of the Lambs". by Thomas harris -- also made into major feature film. I've seen the movie before so the plot was kinda known to me, but it was interesting none the less.
clarice Starling is a to-be fed agent in fbi school. her mentor to be ,a guy whose abt to lose his wife, takes clarice under him. he gives her some work to do. i.e talk to dr hannibal lecter. this lecter guy is a notorious serial killer.
hes a psychiatrist whos killed his patients or has mended his patients into killing some one for him. he believes that killing someone is the best way to get rid of his problem"permanently put into peace"..i think is the way he puts it himslef.
now that was the background info. there is a serial killer on the loose. hes killing young women who are large in size. clarice goes into the investigation herself and gets clues into the case through lecter's thoughful thoughts. the villain mr jame(s) gumb is a guy who believes hes a travestite , but has been rejected by 3 different sex-change hospitals. hes basically making a suit for himself by skiinig nhis victims.
the hullaboo is raised by media when the daughter of a senator gets kidnapped. the senator offers to free lecter int oa lesser restictive environment in ecahnge for the name and identity of the killer.
clarice has been doing something of the same, but shes been exchanging info abt gumb for details of her personal life. her childhood..her being orpahaned... her living in a farm where horses and lambs are slaughtered.... her running away with a horse coz it was gonna be killed..etc
the silence of hte lambs comes from this context as in the she felt peace after getting gumb thru various clues as repercussion for the bleating of the lambs in her sleep. only when the killer has been captured clarice gets a peaceful sleep without waking up to the lambs screaming. SILENCE OF THE LAMBS.
there is also a connection about a insect of some kind

it shuid be interesting to read the sequel or prequel to this book -- hannibal and red dragon...i think im gonna borrow those later.
on the whole, like every other book , i was thoroughly impressed by this one too. the detial is formidable, the language impeccable... although requiring a second reading sometimes.. it took me a while to complete this one ...not coz of my speed but various other things cropping up. like submisisions blah blah
i coud complete a few pages at a time.it was like th ecase of reading the end and forgeting the beginning. dr hannibal lecter is a character that wont be forgotten easily. one more news: lecter escapes !! he outthinks the guards and runs away from his interim prison...
another adventure completed...with lamb chops..
